Arinze Unveils Economic Plan

Howard County Council Candidate Arinze Ifekauche Releases Economic Platform to Make Life More Affordable, Create Local Jobs and Opportunities

Next Week, Arinze to Release White Paper on Plan to Build up to 500,000 sq ft of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) Space to Attract Federal Dollars and Jobs to Howard County

Howard County, MD – Today, Arinze for Howard County Council District 2 released its platform for a thriving local economy. It is predicated on Arinze’s belief that Howard County– long regarded as a bedroom community– is overly reliant on employers in DC, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel County. Arinze has a plan to attract major employers to the County; serve as a fierce advocate for unions and their ability to protect and grow the middle class; and continue support for entrepreneurs and small businesses through existing incubation, acceleration, and promotion programs at the State and Local levels.

“Life continues to get more and more expensive for our residents. As a husband and father of three I know how tough it can be to make ends meet and provide the quality of life Howard County residents strive for,” said Arinze Ifekauche, Candidate for Howard County Council District 2. “As a career public servant, I’ve also seen firsthand the role that government can play to help our local economies grow and thrive. That is why my first priority as a Howard County Councilman will be to utilize every government tool available to make life more affordable for Howard County residents. Much of the economic uncertainty is being driven by Federal and Global forces– but local government can absolutely do more to bring prices down and wages and revenues up.”

Arinze is the son of an entrepreneur who believes Howard County government has a responsibility to aid the backbone of its economy: our small businesses.

That is why Arinze has pledged to support continued investments in the Maryland Innovation Center, the Catalyst Fund revolving loan program, the Cyber Howard Business Accelerator, and Howard County’s new Fearless Institute partnership. As well as champion the Howard County Office of Workforce Development, and its efforts to connect residents with job training and apprenticeship opportunities.

Arinze is focused on attracting new major employers to Howard County through aggressive and strategic outreach to the private sector.

That is why he proposes that Howard County invest in constructing up to 500,000 square feet in Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) space to meet a consistently growing—and unmet—national demand for secure workspaces for cybersecurity firms, defense contractors, and intelligence agencies. Doing so would attract federal dollars and jobs, generate crucial long-term tax revenue, and create future employment opportunities for the 50,000 federal employees who already reside in Howard County. Next week, Arinze will release a white paper that fully details how this plan would benefit Howard County’s economy.

Arinze has spent his entire career working with unions and knows that when unions are strong, they help raise wages for all employees—whether unionized or not.

That is why Arinze has pledged to stand by all collectively bargained agreements struck by the Howard County Education Association. Howard County has lost more than 300 positions within the school system in the last two years.

Similarly, Arinze will advocate that Howard County contracts include– where possible– organized labor.

Arinze (ah-wren-zay) Ifekauche (if-uh-koo-chey) is a 39-year-old political strategist who has spent nearly two decades working in public policy and grassroots organizing on Capitol Hill, as well as State and Local government. On Capitol Hill, Arinze was a policy aide for the 111th Congress and Democratic majority that:

  • Provided millions of Americans relief through comprehensive reform to predatory credit card practices;

  • Passed a $787 billion stimulus package during the Great Recession; and

  • Passed a student loan forgiveness law to help struggling Americans pay off student loans

Now, as a policy and communications staffer at the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention & Policy, Arinze fights to keep our neighborhoods—and children—safe. In his spare time, Arinze is a proud husband and father who serves as Chair of a Howard County-focused youth mentorship program (Kappa League). He expanded the program to include a grant-funded partnership with the Howard County Local Children’s Board to reduce suspension rates among Black and Latino middle school boys in Elkridge. Finally, Arinze serves as a board member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Foundation of Columbia, MD.

On May 1, 2025, Arinze launched his campaign during a kickoff event at Sapwood Cellars Brewery. In June, Arinze announced that he raised more than $20,000 in the first month of his campaign for a thriving local economy. Within 30 days of his launch, Arinze raised $20,000— a testament to the belief that Arinze has the experience, leadership, and vision to help families and businesses thrive in Howard County.
