Arinze’s Five Areas of Focus
Let’s get back to the basics. We need a leader focused on what’s important to middle class families: jobs, affordability, and safety. Below are the five priorities I plan to bring to the Howard County Council.
Housing is expensive– and affordably priced options for young families and older adults are few and far between. I have a plan to REIGNITE OUR HOUSING MARKET by providing a $20,000 TAX CREDIT TO SENIORS seeking to cut living expenses through downsizing, while increasing our housing inventory for first time homebuyers.
Howard County is seen as a destination for people looking to start and raise a family in Maryland. I will pursue and support policies that make it easier for dual income and single parent households to ACCESS QUALITY CHILDCARE AT A REASONABLE PRICE.
A Thriving Local Economy
Howard County is overly reliant on employers in DC and Baltimore. WE MUST ATTRACT NEW MAJOR EMPLOYERS TO HOWARD COUNTY through aggressive and strategic outreach to the private sector. Howard County offers great schools, safe neighborhoods, attractive office space and a strong tax base. I will champion policies and efforts to transform Howard County into an economic engine in Maryland.
Safe Neighborhoods
I support INVESTMENTS IN YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AND FAMILY RESOURCES as a proactive deterrent to violence in our community. Additionally, there are opportunities to drive better public safety outcomes through STRATEGIC INVESTMENTS IN TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPING KEY PARTNERSHIPS within the community.
Protecting School Budgets
Capital Budgets reflect our longterm commitment to the wellbeing of our most precious institutions. FAMILIES NOW AND IN THE FUTURE DESERVE QUALITY SCHOOL FACILITIES. More than 85% of the school operating budget is dedicated to salaries. As a fierce advocate for labor, I believe that ALL COLLECTIVELY BARGAINED SALARY AND COMPENSATION AGREEMENTS MUST BE HONORED IN OUR OPERATING BUDGETS.
