“I’m humbled by the outpouring of support I’ve received from Howard County residents who want nothing more than safe neighborhoods and a thriving local economy for themselves and their families,” said Arinze. “My promise to my supporters is that I will always prioritize the issues that matter most to them, and that—when elected—I will use my 17 years of experience in public service to further Howard County’s legacy as the best place to live in Maryland and one of the best in America.”
Today’s fundraising announcement comes on the heels of Arinze’s May 1 campaign kickoff event. Arinze (ah-wren-zay) Ifekauche (if-uh-koo-chey) is a 39-year-old political strategist who has spent nearly two decades working in public policy and grassroots organizing on Capitol Hill, as well as State and Local government.
Arinze began his career in U.S. congressional politics, helping elect a Democrat in Alabama as Canvassing Director for what was considered by the Democratic Party as the best Congressional door-knocking program in America. Arinze then served as a policy aide on Capitol Hill for the 111th Congress that passed Obamacare.
Arinze made the transition to Maryland politics when he was recruited by Governor O’Malley’s administration to support a Statewide Get Out the Vote effort to approve Marriage Equality in Maryland. Arinze then served as Campaign Manager for the team that elected Marilyn Mosby as the youngest Chief Prosecutor in America.
After helping elect Marilyn Mosby and drafting her Freddie Gray Speech, Arinze was recognized as a Rising Star by Campaign & Elections Magazine. Afterward, he became Communications Director of the Maryland Democratic Party, during which he worked with state House and Senate Democrats, the Teacher’s Union, and Democratic County Executives to support the passage and implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
Arinze has since used his political and campaign experience to effectively communicate with Maryland residents as a public health and safety professional. As Communications Director of the Baltimore City Health Department, Arinze led Baltimore City’s communications response to the global Mpox outbreak. Now, as a policy and communications staffer at the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention & Policy, Arinze fights to keep our neighborhoods—and children—safe.
In his spare time, Arinze is a proud husband and father who serves as Chair of a Howard County-focused youth mentorship program (Kappa League). He expanded the program to include a grant-funded partnership with the Howard County Local Children’s Board to reduce suspension rates among Black and Latino middle school boys in Elkridge. Finally, Arinze serves as a board member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Foundation of Columbia, MD.
