Arinze Ifekauche Calls on Competitors to Support “The Elkridge Agenda”

Elkridge, MD — Howard County Council candidate Arinze Ifekauche is calling on all candidates to join him in supporting The Elkridge Agenda, a focused plan to secure long-overdue infrastructure investments and amenities for the Elkridge community.

The Elkridge Agenda calls for greater and more equitable county investment in Elkridge, including:

  • More equitable investment in Elkridge

  • Construction of a community pool by 2030

  • Improved pedestrian and traffic safety along Route 1

  • A commitment to complete the land acquisition and planning for HS 14 in Elkridge

“For too long, Elkridge residents have watched other parts of the county receive major investments while Elkridge continues to wait,” said Arinze. “The Elkridge Agenda is about fairness, safety, and ensuring families here have access to the same amenities and infrastructure as everyone else in Howard County.”

Arinze recently hosted a community listening session (watch the stream) at the Elkridge Library, where residents shared concerns about traffic congestion along Route 1, dangerous travel routes to schools, limited recreational amenities, and the need for safe pedestrian infrastructure. The session was part of Arinze’s broader commitment to community-driven policymaking.

“I didn’t create The Elkridge Agenda in isolation — it reflects what residents are asking for,” Arinze said. “Parents want safe routes for their children. Families want recreational options close to home. And our community deserves a clear, funded path toward a high school in Elkridge. The County Executive’s FY 25 Budget included money for the renovation of Oakland Mills High School and plans for a new high school in Elkridge. Today– we have neither!”

Arinze is urging his fellow candidates to publicly commit to the priorities outlined in The Elkridge Agenda and work collaboratively to ensure Elkridge receives its fair share of county investment.

“This shouldn’t be partisan or political,” Arinze added. “It’s about delivering results for Elkridge. If you’re running to represent Elkridge in 2026, you should join this pledge.”
